If you’re looking for a fun activity to do in a grocery store, use this free Walmart scavenger hunt list.
You can play this game with kids, teens, youth groups or adults – it’s also great as a team building activity.
Here’s how to organize this scavenger hunt idea:
- List (see below)
- Shopping cart (if doing as an item scavenger hunt)
- Cameras (if doing as a photo scavenger hunt)
Call your local Walmart in advance to check that it’s OK to do this scavenger hunt in their store. This isn’t necessary if you’re only playing it with your own kids or with a few adults, but it’s best to call ahead if you’ll be taking a large youth group in.
This can be done individually or in pairs if there are only a few people participating. For a larger group of players, split them into smaller teams and have this work as a team building scavenger hunt.
Give each team a copy of the Walmart list, a pen and a shopping cart. Their objective is to find each item on the list as quickly as they can.
Arrange a meeting place in the store where they should go to when they’ve found all of their items. The first team back having found all 20 items on the list is the winner.
The only downside with having them physically collect all of the items is that they’ll then need to be returned at the end of the game.
An alternative option is to therefore organize it as a Walmart photo scavenger hunt. Instead of giving them a shopping cart, each team will need a camera instead and they’ll take photos of the items.
If you want to encourage the team building element, set an additional rule that the items have to be photographed on their shelf. This will help ensure that the team stays together, rather than having each player going off and finding their own items and bringing them back to have its photo taken.
If you’ll be playing the version where the items will be collected in a shopping cart, arrange for the meeting place to be somewhere within the store before you reach the checkouts – that way it won’t look like they’re all trying to leave with a cart full of goods!
