10 Halloween Scavenger Hunt Clues

Resources

  • List of Halloween clues (see below)
  • Items that are the answer to the clues

Preparation

Each of the clues below details 10 scary characters / items, as well as where they should be hidden.

To prepare for this game, you’ll therefore need to hide the items in those places. There are a couple of options for what items you could use:

  1. Print a picture of each monster and hide those
  2. Get a toy, accessory, ornament, decoration, etc for each character and hide those

If you want to choose the second option, the list below links to possible items you could use that can be ordered from Amazon.

Instructions

Give the sheet of clues to your kids and send them hunting indoors and out in the front and back yard for the different items.

Alternatively, give them one clue at a time – when they’ve found the first item, give them the second and so on.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt Clues

Here are the 10 rhyming clues you can use for this activity – these tell you which Halloween-themed character or item to use and where to hide it.

Beneath this list is a link for the free printable worksheet – please feel free to print as many copies as you need for personal use.

1. Vampire (In a cupboard)

One thing we know about vampires
Is that they don’t like daylight
Which means that you can find one hiding
In a cupboard out of sight

2. Ghost (Linen closet)

A common image of ghosts
Is that of someone covered with a sheet
So take a look in the place
We store folded linens to keep them neat

3. Skeleton (Where you store shoes)

A skeleton is made of bones
From its head all the way down to its feet
So this is where we keep the shoes
Before you put them on to pound the street

4. Witch (Where you store cleaning items)

Flying around on a broomstick
Is something witches are famous for
Which means this one has been hidden
Where we keep our things to clean the floor

5. Spider (Computer)

A spider decides to build its web
So that many flies it can get
There is another type of web though
So look where you access the net

6. Frankenstein’s Monster (By a light switch)

Electricity is what brought life to
Frankenstein’s monster and gave him a fright
Which means that this one has been hidden where
You enter a room and turn on a light

7. Black Cat (In the bath)

A black cat is a creature
You don’t want to cross your path
Although this one can be found
Sitting inside of a bath

8. Bat (In a closet)

They fly around during the night
And hang upside down during the day
If you look inside a closet
Then find a hanging bat you just may

9. Tombstone (In the backyard)

Etched into a grave’s tombstone
It often says RIP
Find one out in the backyard
Among some rocks it will be

10. Jack O’-Lantern (In the front yard or porch)

Carve a pumpkin, put in a candle
A Jack O’-Lantern is what you get
If you go to the front of the house
Then one of these you will find, I bet
