Alphabet Scavenger Hunt Idea For Kids

Dated By

This alphabet scavenger hunt idea is a great activity to do with your kids indoors, especially if it’s a rainy day and they’re bored with nothing to do.

It’s an easy game to prepare as you don’t have to prepare anything! Here’s how to do it:

Alphabet Scavenger Hunt Idea

Using the pen and paper, write out the letters of the alphabet – do one set for every player (or team if doing this in pairs). If you only have one kid who’ll be playing this, there’s no need to write down the letters. If you have 2+ kids playing though, it’s worth doing so you can keep track of where they’re at.

To start, give each player a letter. They then have to search the house for an item that begins with that letter. Once they’ve found it, they have to bring the item to you.

If you’re happy that the item does indeed begin with that letter, give them another letter and send them to find the next item, putting the previous item back at the same time.

Number Of Players

This scavenger hunt can be done with any amount of kids, although the number you have will affect how you play it:

  • 1 kid – you can go through A-Z in order without any problem
  • 2 kids – go through A-Z with one of them and Z-A with the other. If things are close at the end, it means they won’t fight over the xylophone!
  • 3+ kids – choose letters at random, crossing each letter of the alphabet off as they find them

Winner

The winner of this scavenger hunt is the person who finds items for the whole alphabet first.

Prizes

If you want to give a reward to the winner, here are some suggestions for alphabet-themed prizes you can give:

  • Gummi candy
  • Cookie cutter set
  • Wall stickers
  • Beads
  • Kid’s Apron
  • Ink stampers
  • Go Fish
