One of the best things about Ikea is that they have so many small items for sale that don’t cost much.
You can take advantage of this the next time you visit by planning a fun Ikea scavenger hunt based on these small items.
Here are some ideas for how you can organize it:
Resources
- Scavenger hunt list (see below for item ideas)
- Pen
- $25 per person / team
Preparation
None
Teams
This could be played individually or in small teams.
Ages
This Ikea scavenger hunt can be played with people of any age. It’s great for younger kids and teenagers to help keep them entertained while you look for furniture for the home, or with a youth group for an afternoon’s activity.
It’s also a fun game to play with friends if you’re shopping at Ikea with other adults.
Instructions
Give the players / teams each of the resources listed above. Explain that their task is to find each of the items on the list.
The additional part of the challenge is that they have to buy all these items and stay within a $25 limit. This therefore means they only have approximately $2 to spend per item.
Winner
The winning player / team will be the one that manages to buy all of the items on the list and stay within their budget.
If more than one team manages to do this, the winner will be the team that spent the least amount of money overall – they therefore need to make sure they keep a copy of their receipt as proof.
No Money Version
If you don’t have $25 for each team to spend on random items, you can play it with a zero budget by making it a photo scavenger hunt.
To play this version, make sure every player / team has a camera – the one on their cellphone is fine to use. Give them the list of items to hunt for and when they find each one, take a photo of them along with the price tag.
This means that the prices can be totaled up at the end to see who managed to find the items for the lowest cost.

Here’s a list of possible items you could have players find – all of them should be available at Ikea for between $1 – $3.
